One child, more than any other, captured my heart. On her first visit, all she asked for was a home for her family and a job for her daddy. On her second visit she asked with skepticism, “Are you the real Santa?” I answered as I always do, “Everyone calls me Santa.” She hugged me and whispered in my ear, “Your secret is safe with me.”
Stewart Scott is a retired ad agency executive and copywriter. When he was offered the opportunity to play the role of Santa Claus about seven years ago, he accepted the job immediately.
He tells people, “Being Santa is the most fun I’ve ever had and gotten paid at the same time.” During those seven Christmas seasons Stew has sat with 7,000 kids and heard and seen it all. The experience yielded dozen of stories. Some amusing and heartwarming; some heartbreaking; and others a bit irreverent. All are true and distilled in his book Diary of a Mall Santa available on Amazon & Barnes & Noble, in both paperback and e-book formats.
