"Finding
Peter: A True Story Of The Hand Of Providence And Evidence Of Life After
Death"
One of the greatest horror writers of all time loses his teen age son and experiences a series of odd events, in the midst of intense grief convincing him of life after death and communication from beyond the grave from a son he greatly loved.
GUEST INTRO:
William Peter
Blatty is best known as the acclaimed novelist of The Exorcist, screen writer and
producer of the Academy Award winning film
of the same name.
Blatty grew up in a home
marked by constant evictions and what he
termed comically “comfortable destitution” in New York. Later after graduating from Brooklyn Prep, Blatty attended Georgetown where he heard a priest
tell the story of a demonic possession that became the basis for the novel and later the block buster film.
Finishing grad school, William Blatty served in the US Air Force in their
Psychological Warfare Division. His dream of pursuing work in writing and
entertainment was prompted by a friend. After PR job stints in California, Blatty won
$10,000 on Grocho Marx show, You Bet Your Life allowing him to
write full time. He ghost wrote Dear Abby´s “Dear Teenager” and his
autobiography “Which Way to Mecca, Jack” followed by comedic novels. The Exorcist remarkable NY Times #1 Bestseller
status for nearly 4 months was miraculous.
Initial rave reviews and heavy promotion were met by dismal book sales with
copies being returned by "the carload" until what he calls "an
extraordinary intervention by Providence".
Asked to be a guest for 5 just
minutes on the Dick Cavett show his brief interview soon occupied 45 minutes due to a series of problems
with other guests scheduled that night. The
Cavett interview made book sales skyrocket quickly getting Hollywood´s attention. After
the Exorcist, later works included The
Exorcist III and The Ninth Configuration and the novels Elsewhere (2009),
Dimiter (2010), and Crazy (2010). The tragic loss of his young teenage son Peter Vincent Galahad Blatty and the
unusual occurrences that happened for a few years there after led to his book: "Finding
Peter: A True Story Of The Hand Of Providence And Evidence Of Life After
Death"
